1st Latin American Regional Conference of SHARP, in Rio de Janeiro

We invite specialists in History of reading, authorship and publishing to submit proposals for the 1st Latin American Regional Conference of SHARP, in Rio de Janeiro, entitled “The lettered city: readings and identities in Latin America”. The Conference will take place at the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), from 5th to 8th November 2013.

 

Round-tables shall envisage the following topics:

 

1. Reading Images and the Art of Illustration

2. Changes of Reading Practices in Media Society

3. Images of Nation and Identities in Latin America

4. Books for Children and Education

5. Urban Writing and Urban Reading

6. Cultural Exchanges and Presentations of the “Other”

7. Journalistic Edition and Circulation

8. Books’ Edition and Circulation

9. The Reading Places: libraries and subscription libraries

10. Between Diffusion and Conservation: public policies for books and reading

11. The Oral and the Written in Latin-American Reading Traditions

12. Bibliomania, Bibliophilia

13. Scientific Books, Scientific Diffusion

14. The Culture of Manuscript

15. The Material Forms of Books

16. Translation and Cultural Mediation

17. Text Books

18. Artistic and Intellectual Property

 

Proposals must be submitted online from April 1st to 30th, 2013 (URL will soon be available).

Individual proposals must contain the paper’s title, the author’s full name, an abstract and a brief résumé.

Proposals for round-tables must contain the table’s title and an abstract, its president name (together with his or her résumé), besides title and abstract of each participant’s paper (together with their résumés). There must be a minimum of three participants and a maximum of four. The table’s president can also be a participant, as long as there are four speakers in total.

Approved papers/tables will be disclosed no later than June 30th, 2013.
